Something to chew on

this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually." -James Baldwin, writer (1924-1987)

The difference bewteen Patriotism and Nationalism is that Patriots are willing to question their country, its motives, and its actions. Patriots realise that this is necessary, if you want things to improve. And anyone who truly loves his/her country wants things to improve.

Nationalists, on the other hand, have a blind adoration for their nation. It's not true love. If you never reprimand your children when they do something wrong, if you look the other way, I'd contest that you don't truly love your children. And that's exactly what Nationalists do.

Sadly, Nationalists have a tendency to call themselves Patriots, which tarnishes the term "Patriotism".
